Sarah Platt has been working as an artist since 2002. Her images have become very popular in the regions she has covered. Her work is uniquely recognisable.
Sarah’s first exhibition was titled ‘Our Town’. This title still sums up her work. She painstakingly takes each town apart and then redesigns them, stitching them back together like a patchwork quilt. Each town has it’s important buildings, it’s icons, and the things that make it a community. It has the story of our history and who we are. People respond to her work with, ‘This is my home town. This is where I come from. This place has a claim on my heart.’
Her work is done in bright watercolours or acrylics, reflecting the vividness of the New Zealand landscape. Her style is classified ‘Naive’. Her work is detailed and clear.
